Jesus, through the gospel, now empowers us to be content and generous people. The promises of money are powerful, and they are only broken by the power of the gospel’s superior promises—like the fact that God is for us and “no good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly” (Ps 84:11). Believing in that truth is the means to being content and generous.

Reflection
Why do we tend to think that only rich people struggle with greed? Why do we crave what we see? We know that we should not spend more than we make, so why do so many of us do it anyway? How would you define greed? How have you hurt others by your greed, and how have others hurt you? What needs to change, if anything, for you to be more content or satisfied in Christ? Have you ever seriously considered what it really means to be satisfied in Christ? If everything you worked for was suddenly taken away from you, would Christ be enough? Pray and ask God to make the sufficiency of Christ real to you.
